European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway England
2008-09-09
The event suffered from rain during Friday and Saturday, but that luckily changed on Sunday, so the drivers in the Pro classes was given a single shot qualifying chance on mid day on Sunday. We ran a 7.69sec which made us No. 7 qualifier.
We lost in the first round to Danny Bellio 6.57s/202kph vs 6.35s/379kph when the blower belt broke at the end of the run. That gave us a tough time when we had to wait for our competitors to complete the race before we could be certain who was the champion. Our points lead was however more than any of them could catch up to, so we are now the 2008 FIA TMFC Dragracing Champions!!!
It was a smiling Leanders Bros dragracing team that entered the banquet at the end of the day.
We have had both ups and downs during this season but we are all very pleased with the outcome of course...

We were all a bit worried about the weather forecast for this weekend, but it was only on Friday that we suffered from some rain. The rest of the weekend had really great weather.
We had problems to figure out the track for the two first qualifying runs with 6.08 and 10.70sec, but for the third one we put out a 5.77sec run, which made us No. 1 qualifier. It was also the low E.T. of the event.
First round of eliminations was a bye run: 10.893s/133.13kmh
Semifinal against Leif Andreasson: 5.88s/397kmh vs. 5.81s/402kmh
Even though we did not win this event, we still have the points lead and we are really looking forward going to the European Finals at Santa Pod.

The weather was really nice all weekend and we were able to make 4 qualifying runs:
14.4s / 99.7 kmh
6.3s / 267.1 kmh
14.5s / 71.4 kmh
6.0s / 377.3 kmh
This made us No.4 qualifier.
The track was a bit tricky, but we finally figured it out.
First round of eliminations against Danny Bellio: 5.80s/398kmh vs 6.07s/387kmh
Semifinals against Leif Andreasson: 5.88s/395kmh vs 5.90s/391kmh
Finals against Arvid Grödem: 5.87s/395kmh vs 6.19s/328kmh

FHRA Nitro Nationals in Finland

We put out runs of 6.42, 5.73, 6,36 and 5,73 in the qualifying, which made us no.1 qualifier.
We won the first round of eliminations against Danny Bellio 5.78s/340kmh vs. 11.43s.
The semifinal was a bye-run 5.75s/393kmh.
We won the final against Jarmo Kuutniemi 5.69s/401kmh vs. 6.94s/300kmh.
A new track-record, and the quickest time in Scandinavia! With this ET we also touched the European record in the class.
Next round in the European Championship, is held at Mantorp Park in Sweden.
-Last year at Mantorp, we ran a 5,71 and set a new track-record. 5,71 was at that time the fastest ET in Scandinavia. Of course we hope to set a new track-record, and a new European best at Mantorp Park 24-27 of July.
Deep Forest Nat's
2008-06-19
We participated at the Deep Forest Nat's in Sundsvall 14-15 June for testing purposes. On Saturday we put out a 6.22 sec run, but were unfortunately unable to run anything more during the weekend due to rain.
MainEvent at Santa Pod Raceway in England
2008-05-26
We made two test runs before the event on Thursday with E.T's of 5.89 and 9.09sec. We are now fully confident in the clutch we have developed and manufactured ourselves. Even the Pro Mod team of Fredde Fagerström tested the clutch with satisfactory result.
In the first round of qualifying we put out a 6.29sec / 277.6kmh which made us No. 3 qualifier. Unfortunately the crankshaft broke which heavily damaged our engine and made us unable to attend the second round of qualifying that day.
Qualifying on Saturday and Eliminations on Monday completely rained out with exception for a few cars that made it down the track this morning. At 14:30 today the track promoter had to make the tough decision to cancel the event.

This was a weekend with both ups and downs. Despite some rain we were able to make 3 qualifying runs of 6.21s, 5.76s and 5.71s!!
The 5.71s made us low qualifier and it was also a new ET track record there. Thanks to the track crew for their really good preparations of the track!
We won the first round of eliminations against Arvid Grödem 6.75s/308kmh vs. 9.18s/166kmh.
Unfortunately we lost in the semi finals against Freddy Fagerström 6.05s/346kmh vs. 5.80s/398kmh.

FHRA Nitro Nationals
2007-07-09
Despite some rain on friday and saturday we were able to make 3 qualifying runs:
6.006sec/384.48kmh
10.182sec/128.18kmh
6.185sec/380.15kmh
Sunday was a really rainy day, and the first round for the Pro classes could not take place until late afternoon. Then it started raining again and it ended the race.
We met Arvid Grödem in the first round and lost with a 7.642sec/203.71kmh vs. 6.323sec/359.58kmh.
On the upside for us was however that we gathered a lot of useful info for our new clutch.

More pictures from the event will be added to this website later.
Testing at Sundsvall Raceway
2007-06-18
We had the opportunity to do some testing during Deep Forest Nat's 16-17 June at Sundsvall Raceway. With only one run performed at the Main Event we felt that we needed to get more runs into the car to be able test all the new parts like the clutch and so on. We struggled a bit during the first two runs, but the third was a 5,99 sec which was quite good. It was also the lowest ET during the event, even though there were 3 Nitro Funny Cars there too!
The clutch still looks promising and we are really looking forward to the race in Finland.
FIA Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway
2007-05-30
The first race of the 2007 season became a disappointment for everyone when both Sunday and Monday rained out. We were able to make one qualifying pass on Saturday which resulted in a 6.04sec/391.6kmh run.
This was the first run with our new clutch and so far it looks promising. We hope to be able to do more testing of it as soon as possible.

Press release
2007-04-22
New clutch from European Champion in co-operation with Ironcad and Haas.
A new dragracing clutch with innovating technology is in the line of
production from Leanders Bros Racing in Sweden. The successful
Methanol Funny Car team with Ulf Leanders behind the wheel and
brother Jörgen as crew chief is reign European Champion. After
building their own clutch-dyno, being able to study movement and load
on their existing cluch they developed a complete new unit. Research
and developing have been helped by Leanders Bros highly appreciated
sponsors Ironcad 3D cad software and Haas CNC machines of Europe.
First out is a 10” clutch with 3 discs witch have been SFI approved.
Under developing is 11” unit that will be available with- and without
ring gear.
No bolted facings is just one of many new technical solutions. Using 4 floaters in this 3 disc unit will make sure all contact surfaces will be equal and not effected by previous runs. 7 stands instead of 6 as usual will make it stronger but the odd number also makes it easier to balance. The stands and the floaters have a flat face contact surface that will eliminate the problem of heat changing the radius of the contact surface on round shapes as used on other clutches. The disc gap adjustment is done with a special nut with numbered sides instead of turning the stands. Clutch arms can be removed/changed without removing or taking unit apart.
-We are very exited about the new clutch and convinced that it will help our performance. What we see as the biggest improvement is to have a bigger spread of adjustment levels and a more service friendly unit, says Ulf Leanders.
Flywheel, donut and top cover have been fabricated in Alumec from
Uddeholm Tooling, a Swedish metal refiner specialized in High
Performance and Tooling metals. Still having the strength superior to
many steels it can take 15% elongation before braking and have little
weight. Although carrying 4 floaters and being stronger than other
units the total weight with discs is only 30 kilos (66 pounds).
-It has been pure pleasure to develop the clutch when having the opportunity to work with the quality tools and materials supplied by our sponsors. Everything is designed in Ironcad 3D cad software to be transferred to our Haas CNC machine, says Jörgen Leanders.
Leanders Bros will appear in their first race with the clutch as well as new Ironcad/Haas paint scheme when the European dragracing season kicks off during the Main Event @ Santa Pod Raceway, England May 26-28.
New paint scheme outcast for European Champion Ulf Leanders carrying the colors of Ironcad and Haas.
Peter Hall of Haas CNC of Europe (left) hands over a CNC- machine to Ulf Leanders to use in their race technology developing and fabrication.
The all new and SFI approved Leanders Bros 10” clutch. Note 4 floaters, 7 stands with flat contact surface to floaters and arms removable without taking clutch apart.
Close up on adjustment nut and flat contact surface to stands and floaters. Discs are the same as to any other clutch.
Clutch dyno
2007-04-09
We have been working on a clutch dyno for some time, and now it's ready for action. It has already proved itself invaluable during the testing of our new clutch.
The dyno is computer controlled and is definitely a unique machine. It puts quite some pressure on some of its parts like bearings, electronics and so on, but it's built to be robust.
As can be seen on the pictures, there is a sturdy cover surrounding the clutch. This is for safety reasons.

The clutch is certified
2007-02-19
The clutch of our own design has now been certified!!
Ulf and Jorgen has just come home from a trip to USA where they watched some stunning performance at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona California. They had also brought the new clutch with them so they could try to get it certified. The certification procedure was made by a company just north of San Diego, and passed without any problems.
The coming season will be very interesting for many reasons. One of them is our new clutch of course.
